North Sydney Girls High School: Applying for Years 8 to 11 and Sitting the EduTest

North Sydney Girls High School, a fully selective girls' school in Crows Nest, coordinates its own entry to Years 8 to 11. Families lodge a paper application with the school, and every applicant sits the EduTest. Selective Success Academy runs live online small-group EduTest classes on Microsoft Teams for girls seeking Year 8 to 11 entry.

How Years 8 to 11 entry works at North Sydney Girls High School

North Sydney Girls High School teaches Years 7 to 12 at 365 Pacific Highway, Crows Nest. It has no local area intake, so living close by is not a way in. Year 7 entry is run by the NSW Department of Education. From Year 8 to Year 11, entry is coordinated through the school, and it has two parts: a paper application sent to the school, and an Edutest registration for the test.

These steps follow last cycle's round, for 2027 entry, from the school's enrolment page, the Department and Edutest, all read on 3 October 2026. The Department warns that dates and procedures can change, so compare each step with the school's page when the 2028-entry round is announced.

  1. Check that your daughter can apply, and for which year. Last cycle the school coordinated entry to Years 8, 9, 10 and 11, and it says students are generally not admitted into Year 12. Families apply in the year before entry, which in the last round meant June and July 2026 for a start in late January 2027. The school's page says applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and that New Zealand citizens are eligible but New Zealand permanent residents are not. A girl already at another selective school applies the same way, because the Department says students cannot transfer automatically between selective schools.
  2. Complete the general form from the Department. North Sydney Girls High School says it does not have its own online application form, and it points families to the general form on the NSW Department of Education's website. The school also asks you to mark clearly your daughter's name and address and the year she is applying for. If North Sydney Girls High School is one of several selective schools on your list, the Department wants one form per school, with your preferences ranked identically on each.
  3. Put the documents together. The school's list comes straight after these steps.
  4. Post the application, or hand it in at the Administration Office. The school does not accept applications by email. To hand it in, go during school term, Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 3.30pm, when the office is open.
  5. Book the test with Edutest, and pay. This part is done on Edutest's website, through the registration link on the school's enrolment page. Last cycle you could register from Wednesday 17 June 2026 until 3pm on Friday 24 July 2026, the school's stated closing time. The school says the application processing fee and the Edutest fee are both paid direct to Edutest. Edutest's registration page for the school's test listed a registration fee of $180.00 last cycle, paid online at the end of registering, and a registration without payment is not valid.
  6. Test day in the school hall. Last cycle's test began at 9am (AEST) on Saturday 15 August 2026, in the North Sydney Girls School Hall.
  7. Interview. Nothing on the school's enrolment page refers to an interview for Years 8 to 11 applicants (checked 3 October 2026).
  8. Outcome advice. The school sends outcome advice to applicants in Term 4. It publishes no selection method of its own; across NSW, the Department says selection committees assess the academic performance shown in the application and, where used, in testing. A successful applicant shows the original citizenship, birth certificate or visa documents before her enrolment can be finalised. Girls offered entry in the last round begin in late January 2027, according to the Department.

What to attach

For 2027 entry, the school wanted these with the paper application:

  • your daughter's 2025 Semester 1 and Semester 2 school reports
  • her 2026 Semester 1 report
  • her most recent NAPLAN report
  • any extra-curricular activities
  • evidence of citizenship or residency, such as a birth certificate, an Australian passport, proof of Australian citizenship or a permanent residency visa, which Edutest's page for the school's test asks for with each application

With the form itself, the Department wants a copy of your daughter's birth certificate, citizenship or passport. The school's list names particular report years, so check it again when the next round is published.

If she would start in Year 8 or Year 11

The school's learning page has a detail for each of these year levels:

  • Year 8. The school's mandatory Year 8 subjects include English and one of French, Japanese or Latin.
  • Year 11. Students take twelve units of study. The school's list of 2-unit courses includes English Advanced, Mathematics Advanced, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, along with French, Japanese and Latin Continuers.

To see the school before applying, its home page offers a video tour and an interactive walkthrough. As at 3 October 2026, its site lists no open day for Years 8 to 11 applicants.

More than one EduTest school on your list? Edutest's page for the school's test names Baulkham Hills High School, James Ruse Agricultural High School, Chatswood High School and Sydney Girls High School alongside North Sydney Girls High School. Each school on your list needs its own Edutest application and its own payment, yet your daughter sits the test only once, and her results go to those schools. The first registration you submit decides where she sits it, and last cycle that could not be changed after 24 July.

If the answer is no this time. Across NSW, the Department lets families ask for a review of an unsuccessful application within 7 days of receiving the result, on set grounds. The Department adds that a reserve list holds only for that school year and may close once Term 2 ends. A girl who misses out can apply again in a later round, with a new application.

How Years 8 to 11 entry runs at the rest of the NSW selective schools is in our selective school transfer guide.

The coming round: 2028 entry (exams in August 2027)

The school has not released anything for this round yet. On 3 October 2026, the school's enrolment page held only the 2027-entry round, and none of the pages in its sitemap mentioned 2028. The Department's Years 8 to 11 page, last updated 27 July 2026, gives key dates for 2027 entry only and says its dates and procedures may change. Edutest's list of assessments open for registration included nothing for North Sydney Girls High School. Last cycle's details were published on the school's enrolment page, so watch that page.

The test

The school's Selection Test is the EduTest, run by Edutest, and North Sydney Girls High School appears on Edutest's list of client schools. For last cycle's test, Edutest said every student sitting it in Sydney would sit a paper-based exam, and that no alternate testing date was available. Sections and timings are not listed on the school's page.

How we prepare students for North Sydney Girls High School

This school's process has two parts: the EduTest, and an application carrying your daughter's reports, NAPLAN and activities. Our tutoring is for the test.

Our EduTest course is taught live on Microsoft Teams to small groups, as tutoring and exam coaching in one. A term is ten weekly lessons of two hours, and it comes with lesson recordings, lesson and homework booklets, marking feedback on weekly homework, and a full-length mock exam with a comprehensive review. The booklets are written by Selective Success Academy for the EduTest. That makes them our own practice material; none of it is a past paper.

Two details from last cycle are worth planning around:

  • Last cycle's test was on paper in Sydney. Build in handwritten, timed practice, not only work on a screen.
  • The Semester 1 report from the year she applies was on the list. Schoolwork in the first half of that year is part of the application, so keep it steady while she prepares for the test.

If you would like help planning the year before your daughter applies, book a short call. Class times for the EduTest course are on our timetable.

Questions parents ask about North Sydney Girls High School entry

What test do girls sit for Years 8 to 11 entry at North Sydney Girls High School?

The EduTest. The school's enrolment page says girls seeking entry to Years 8 to 11 must sit a Selection Test, and it gave last cycle's date as its Edutest entry test date. Edutest, for its part, includes the school in its published client list. Year 7 entry is different: the NSW Department of Education runs it, not the school.

How many places are there?

That varies, both between schools and between year levels, and the decision rests with North Sydney Girls High School itself. In the NSW Department of Education's guidance, vacancies, assessments and placement decisions are managed by each selective school. You will not find a number from us, for this school or any other. We are happy to look at your daughter's year level with you on a short call.

Are there dates yet for 2028 entry (exams in August 2027)?

Not yet. As at 3 October 2026, the school's enrolment page covers only last cycle's round, the Department lists 2027-entry dates only, and Edutest has no open registration for the school. The last round's Edutest registration was open from Wednesday 17 June to 3pm on Friday 24 July 2026, with the test itself on Saturday 15 August 2026.

Is there an online or email option for the application?

No. North Sydney Girls High School says it does not have its own online application form, and it will not accept applications by email. Last cycle it pointed families to the NSW Department of Education's general application form, to be posted or handed in at its Administration Office. The online part is the Edutest registration and payment, made through the link on the school's enrolment page.

Does the school interview girls applying for Years 8 to 11?

The school's enrolment page does not mention an interview for Years 8 to 11 entry, and neither does any other page on its site that we read on 3 October 2026. Check the enrolment page again when the next round is announced.

Can my daughter join in Year 12?

Generally not. The school says students are generally not admitted into Year 12, so Year 11 is the latest year it names for entry. A girl who wants to join for her final two years applies while she is in Year 10.
