Baulkham Hills High School: How Years 8 to 11 Entry Works

Baulkham Hills High School, a fully selective co-educational school, uses the EduTest for entry in Years 8 to 11. It runs its own application: a paper form handed in or posted to the school, then a review by a panel of its educators. Selective Success Academy prepares students for the EduTest with live online small-group tutoring on Microsoft Teams.

Last checked 1 October 2026 against the school's enrolment page.

How Years 8 to 11 entry works at Baulkham Hills High School

Year 7 entry to Baulkham Hills High School is run by the NSW Department of Education's Selective Education Team. Entry in Years 8 to 11 is different: the school takes the applications itself and makes its own decisions. Last cycle (2027 entry), these were the steps on the school's enrolment page and in the forms it hosts.

  1. Fill in the Years 8 to 11 application form. It is the NSW Department of Education's form, and the school hosts a copy. You send one to the principal of each selective school you apply to, up to three, listing the schools in the same order of preference on every form.
  2. Have your child handwrite the school's Supplementary Application Form. The form is the school's own, and it "MUST be handwritten by the student". Its questions are listed below.
  3. Gather the documents listed under "What to attach".
  4. Register for the EduTest and pay online, direct to Edutest, by credit card. Last cycle this cost $180, which covered an application processing fee and the EduTest fee together. You apply, and pay, separately for each school.
  5. Post the application to the school, or hand it in at the Administration Office, 419a Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills 2153. The school accepts no applications by email or online.
  6. Your child sits the EduTest. Last cycle it was held at the school itself.
  7. A panel of the school's educators reviews the application. The school then contacts parents directly.

The school's enrolment page and its forms do not mention an entry interview for Years 8 to 11.

Who can apply. For Years 8 to 11, the school says: "Candidates must be Australian citizens or holders of a visa granting permanent residency status in Australia." New Zealand citizens permanently settled in Australia are also eligible. Proof goes in with the application.

What to attach

Last cycle, the school's application checklist and enrolment page asked for photocopies of:

  • your child's birth certificate, Australian citizenship or Australian passport, and visa
  • school reports for semesters 1 and 2 of 2025 and semester 1 of 2026
  • the latest NAPLAN report, or the last two for a Year 10 or Year 11 applicant, where they exist
  • external academic results from the past two years, such as ICAS or REACH
  • evidence of activities outside class, such as music, sport or debating

With them went the completed Supplementary Application Form and anything else the family chose to supply. A report, certificate or NAPLAN result that was not ready could be handed in late, in the school's words "before 7 August 2026 by 3pm". Check the list again when the school publishes its 2028-entry details.

The handwritten supplementary form

Last cycle's form asked your child, among other things:

  • whether they sat the Selective Schools Test in Year 6 and how they went, or, if not, why they want a selective school now
  • how they will travel to school, and how long the trip will take
  • their favourite subject, any music study and their interests
  • who their role model is, and a challenge they have overcome
  • why Baulkham Hills High School should want them, and what they will contribute

Because it must be in your child's own handwriting, allow time for a draft and a clean final copy.

Check the school's own enrolment page for its 2028-entry details before you plan around any date.

Test day at the school, last cycle

  • Students came in by Windsor Road only. The Carver Crescent walkway was closed, and there was no parking on school property.
  • Each student had to bring photo ID (a current school photo card or library card, or a passport), two lead pencils and a black or blue pen.
  • No calculators were permitted.
  • In Sydney the exam was on paper, and Edutest offered no other date to a student who could not attend.
  • Students overseas or interstate arranged a local testing location through Edutest at least three weeks before the exam. Remote testing cost extra.

The test

For Baulkham Hills High School, the EduTest is run by Edutest Pty Ltd, an independent testing organisation, and last cycle it was held at the school itself. Its enrolment page names the five sections: Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics and Written Expression. What each section asks, how long it runs and how results reach the schools are all in our EduTest guide.

How we prepare students for Baulkham Hills High School

Baulkham Hills High School's application includes the EduTest, so our EduTest course is how we prepare students for it. It is small-group tutoring and exam preparation, taught live on Microsoft Teams.

Last cycle the same EduTest sitting also served James Ruse Agricultural High School, North Sydney Boys High School and three other schools. One course prepares your child for the test every school in that group used.

Questions parents ask about Baulkham Hills High School entry

Does Baulkham Hills High School need an entrance test for Years 8 to 11?

Yes. Baulkham Hills High School uses the EduTest, and its enrolment page gives last cycle's exam date, venue, sections and fee. Some selective schools review school reports and other information instead of holding a test, which may be why you have read that no test is needed. For Baulkham Hills High School, the EduTest is part of the application.

Does my child sit the EduTest again for other schools?

Last cycle (2027 entry), no. A student who applied to Baulkham Hills High School and any of James Ruse Agricultural High School, North Sydney Boys High School, North Sydney Girls High School, Sydney Girls High School or Chatswood High School's selective stream sat the EduTest once. Each school received the results of its own applicants, ran its own review and contacted parents directly. You still apply and pay for each school separately. Nothing has been published yet about the sitting for 2028 entry.

Can we apply online or by email?

No. For Years 8 to 11 the school takes paper applications only, posted or handed in at its Administration Office, and it accepts none by email or online. The one part you do online is the EduTest registration and payment, with Edutest. The "Apply online" steps on the school's page are for Year 7 entry.

Does Baulkham Hills High School interview applicants?

Its enrolment page and application forms do not mention an entry interview for Years 8 to 11, as at 1 October 2026. What the school does say is that "An internal school selection panel of educators convenes to evaluate applications." Follow any instructions the school sends you after the test.

How many places are there?

Baulkham Hills High School makes its own decisions, and how many students it can take changes with the year level and with how many students leave. The school does not publish a figure in advance, and we do not quote any. Book a short call and we can talk through your child's year level and the other schools on your list.

When do applications for 2028 entry open?

Baulkham Hills High School has not said yet. When we checked its pages on 1 October 2026, there was nothing for 2028 entry (exams in August 2027). For 2027 entry, the school took applications from 17 June to 24 July 2026 and held the EduTest on Saturday 15 August 2026.
