Blacktown Girls High School: Selective Stream Entry in Years 8 to 10

Blacktown Girls High School, a partially selective school, runs its own application for girls entering its selective stream in Years 8 to 10, and each applicant sits ACER's Higher Ability Selection Test, the HAST. Selective Success Academy prepares students entering NSW selective high schools in Years 8 to 11 for it, through live online small-group classes on Microsoft Teams.

Blacktown Girls High School, on Fifth Avenue in Blacktown, teaches girls from Year 7 to Year 12 in two streams: a selective stream for high-potential and gifted students, and a comprehensive stream. Families in the school's local intake area can enrol through its general enrolment. The selective classes are different: the school says they have no intake area, and entry to them is by application only. To compare how other selective schools handle entry after Year 7, see our guide to selective school transfer.
How Years 8 to 10 entry works at Blacktown Girls High School
These are the steps from last cycle's round, for 2027 entry, as the school's selective enrolment page and the application form it links set them out. Applications for that round are closed, and details can change before the next.
- Check the year your daughter would enter. The school's process covers entry into Years 8, 9 and 10. It sets out no process for Year 11 or Year 12, so if your daughter would be starting Year 11, ask the school before you apply. Year 7 is different: the school sends families applying for its Year 7 selective stream to the NSW Department of Education's website, to apply online.
- Choose up to three selective schools. Up to three selective high schools can be on your list, and every one of them needs its own application. On the NSW Department of Education's form, you are asked to check each school's assessment requirements before you fill it in, and you then send a completed copy to each school's principal.
- Complete the form. For 2027 entry, Blacktown Girls High School's selective page carried a link to the Department's application form for Years 8 to 11. The page did not explain how the form reaches the school, so ask the office how to lodge it when the next round opens.
- Pay the test fee in person. If Blacktown Girls High School is your first preference, you apply and pay for the test at the school. Last cycle the fee was $110.00, non-refundable, paid at the administration office by 2pm on Friday 24 July 2026, with EFTPOS available. The office is open from 8am to 2:45pm, Monday to Friday, in school term.
- Meet the closing time. Applications for 2027 entry closed at 2:00pm sharp on Friday 24 July 2026, and the school said it would not accept late applications.
- Your daughter sits the HAST at the school. First-preference applicants sit it in the school hall at Blacktown Girls High School. Last cycle the test was on Tuesday 1 September 2026. The school published no arrival, start or finish time; ACER's bulletin leaves it to each school to tell families the test day, when to arrive and where to go.
- The Selection Committee considers the applications. For 2027 entry it was due to meet in September or October 2026. The school publishes no selection criteria. Under the NSW Department of Education's general rule, a selection committee looks at the academic performance an application shows, plus the test result where there is one.
- Outcomes come by email. The school said it would email outcome advice in October or November 2026. A girl offered entry is later asked for original documents, a birth certificate or a visa for example, as proof of residency. Under the Department's timeline, girls who were successful begin at the school in late January 2027.
Interview. No interview appears anywhere in the school's selective entry steps, as at 3 October 2026.
If the school is your second or third preference. The school gives its test venue in its instructions for first-preference families, and its fee paragraph names no preference at all. If Blacktown Girls High School sits second or third on your list, ask its office whether the $110.00 charge applies to you, and at which school your daughter would be tested.
What to attach
Blacktown Girls High School does not publish its own list of attachments for selective entry. The Department's form that it linked last cycle asks whether copies of your daughter's school reports, for the current year, the previous year or both, are attached, along with any extra evidence each school requires. For identity, the Department's baseline is a copy of her birth certificate, citizenship or passport. Confirm the full list with the school before you lodge.
Key dates
Last cycle: 2027 entry (HAST on 1 September 2026)
Last cycle, Blacktown Girls High School closed applications on the Department's closing day but set its own test date and outcome window. That round had not finished on 3 October 2026: the school's window for emailing outcome advice runs into November.

As at 3 October 2026, the six rows above all belong to the 2027-entry round. The school gave its test date without a weekday, so Tuesday comes from the calendar.
2028 entry (exams in August 2027)
Blacktown Girls High School has published no date for 2028 entry, including the date of its next HAST. As at 3 October 2026, its selective enrolment page still carries only the 2027-entry round, headed as closed, and 2028 is not mentioned on the school's site, in the documents its selective page links, on the Department's page for Years 8 to 11 applications or on ACER's HAST pages. ACER leaves the test date to each school, and this school tested in September last cycle, so do not assume its next test falls in August or on 1 September. Keep an eye on the selective enrolment page. Our selective school transfer guide notes which schools have announced when 2028-entry applications open.
The test
For selective entry in Years 8 to 10, Blacktown Girls High School relies on the HAST, which ACER (the Australian Council for Educational Research) develops. ACER lists the school at two of its levels, Junior Secondary for entry into Year 8 and Middle Secondary for entry into Years 9 and 10, so the paper your daughter sits depends on the year she is entering. ACER's Student Information Bulletin, which the school links, says a school picks a package of three or four tests, and Blacktown Girls High School does not say whether it uses three tests or all four.
Our guide to the HAST covers each test, its timing and how the levels differ.
How we prepare students for Blacktown Girls High School
Girls applying to Blacktown Girls High School prepare in our HAST course, at the level that matches the year they would enter. Our HAST tutoring runs in small groups, taught live on Microsoft Teams, with one two-hour lesson a week for the ten weeks of a term. Alongside the teaching, your daughter gets a recording of each lesson, lesson and homework booklets, marked feedback on her homework each week, and a comprehensive review after her full-length mock exam.
Because the school's process covers Years 8 to 10, these are the HAST classes to look at on our timetable. Each is named for the year your daughter is in when she applies:
- Year 7 HAST classes, for Year 8 entry
- Year 8 HAST classes, for Year 9 entry
- Year 9 HAST classes, for Year 10 entry
The practice questions in our booklets are Selective Success Academy's own, modelled on the HAST's format. They are not ACER material or past papers.
If you are weighing Blacktown Girls High School against other selective schools, or are unsure which year your daughter should apply for, book a short call and we will talk it through with you.

| Term course, recordings only | $600 |
| Two term courses | $1,400 |
Prices as at 1 October 2026.
The live term course is 20 hours of teaching, so $900 works out at $45 an hour. It includes small group classes, lesson recordings, a full-length mock exam with a comprehensive review, marking feedback on weekly homework and the mock, lesson and homework booklets, and online messaging support.
A question bank gives your child practice. It does not contain any teaching hours, and it cannot tell you which school to apply to, what the school report needs to show, or when the application closes.

Questions parents ask about Blacktown Girls High School entry
Which test does Blacktown Girls High School use for selective entry after Year 7?
ACER's HAST, the Higher Ability Selection Test. Blacktown Girls High School's selective enrolment page says a girl entering its selective stream in Years 8 to 10 needs to sit it, and ACER lists the school at its Junior and Middle Secondary levels. Year 7 selective entry is a separate process, run through the NSW Department of Education. Our HAST guide explains the test section by section.
How many places are there?
It differs between schools and between year levels, and for its selective stream Blacktown Girls High School decides for itself. The NSW Department of Education says this of every selective school: each school handles its own vacancies, assessments and placement decisions. Selective Success Academy does not give a number of places for any school. To talk about the year your daughter would join, book a short call.
Does Blacktown Girls High School take girls into Year 11?
Not through any process the school publishes. Blacktown Girls High School's selective enrolment page covers entry into Years 8, 9 and 10, and ACER lists the school only at the levels used for entry up to Year 10. The school's selective stream does run to Year 12, so if your daughter would be starting Year 11, ask the school directly. Our selective school transfer guide explains how Year 11 entry works at other selective schools.
Have the 2028-entry dates been published?
No. As at 3 October 2026, Blacktown Girls High School has published no 2028-entry date, and its selective enrolment page still lists the 2027-entry round as closed, with nothing later. That round's applications and fee were due by 2pm on Friday 24 July 2026, and the school held its HAST on Tuesday 1 September 2026, a date it chose itself. The next date may differ, so check the school's selective enrolment page regularly.
What did it cost to apply last time?
For 2027 entry, the school charged a non-refundable fee of $110.00, paid in person at its administration office, where EFTPOS was available. The fee appears on the school's page straight after its instructions for families who put Blacktown Girls High School first, and the page does not say whether families who put it second or third pay it too. Blacktown Girls High School has published no 2028-entry fee.
We live near the school. Does that help with selective entry?
No. Blacktown Girls High School says there are no intake areas for its selective classes, and enrolment in them is on application only. The school's local intake area applies to its general enrolment, so a girl who lives nearby applies and sits the HAST like every other applicant to the selective stream.
